In January 2009, water professionals from Arizona began holding a series of water sustainability workshops with them counterparts in La Paz, Baja California Sur. The Arizona Water Institute originally administered the program. Following the demise of that organization in June 2009, Central Arizona Project (CAP) stepped into that role to ensure the success of the year-long international program.
12/29/2009 Central Arizona Project Announces Community Investment Grant Awards
Central Arizona Project (CAP) is proud to announce the December 2009 Community Investment Grant program recipients. Twice a year (in December and June), CAP recognizes projects that focus on Colorado River water, enhance alternative water usage or promote water conservation. Grants of up to $5,000 go to organizations in its Maricopa, Pima and Pinal County Service Area.
10/15/2009 CAP Announces H2O4U 2009-10 Scholarship Opportunity
Central Arizona Project (CAP) announces the launch of the 2009-10 version of its H2O4U scholarship program. To make it more accessible to teachers and students in Maricopa, Pinal and Pima counties, CAP has extended the timeframe for submission of student results.

Central Arizona Project (CAP) is proiud to announce the winners of the 2009 CAP Award for Water Research. The Award is presented annually in partnership with the Arizona Hydrological Society.
07/30/2009 Public Invited to Contribute to CAP Strategic Plan
The CAP Board of Directors will hold a Strategic Planning meeting in the Tucson area in late September where they will discuss the status of CAP's strategic goals as part of a process of updating CAP's 2006 Strategic Plan.
07/24/2009 CAP WINS PROCUREMENT AWARD
For the second year in a row, Central Arizona Project's Procurement Department has won the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) Award.
07/20/2009 CAP Wins Telly Award
Central Arizona Project's (CAP) Communications Group received a Telly Award of Excellence for its Power of Water educational video program.
06/24/2009 Marie Pearthree Joins Central Arizona Project
Marie S. Pearthree, P.E. has accepted a position at the Central Arizona Project as the Assistant General Manager of Business Planning. She will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with external stakeholders and will manage the development of CAP's Business Plan.
06/04/2009 No Property Tax Increase For CAP Water
During its June meeting, the Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board of Directors, which oversees management and operations of the Central Arizona Project (CAP) voted to maintain its 6 cents per $100 of assessed valuation in the property tax rate for the 2009-2010 tax years.

CAP Board member Carol Zimmerman accepted an award from Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.
05/26/2009 CAP General Manager Modeer Invited to Testify Before COngressional Committee in Tucson
Central Arizona Project General Manager David Modeer has been invited to testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Water and Power, a part of the House Committee on Natural Resources, during an oversight field hearing on water quality isues in the Lower Colorado River. The field hearing will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27 in Tucson in the Pima County Board of Supervisors Hearing Room, 130 W. Congress.
04/30/2009 Grants Application Deadline May 8
Central Arizona Project (CAP) will award about $25,000 in grants to nonprofit organization seeking funding for water and/or environmental education programs. The application deadline is May 8, 2009.
04/20/2009 CAP Supports Efforts to Avoid Water Shortage
Today the Scripps Institution of Oceanography released a report dealing with future forecasts of flows in the Colorado River and the ability of the river to meet existing and future deliveries to the seven Colorado River Basin states.
04/09/2009 Mitch Basefsky Joins CAP Team
The Central Arizona Project is pleased to announce that Mitch Basefsky, formerly the Public Information Officer at Tucson Water, has joined the Central Arizona Project as their Communications Representative for Pima and Pinal counties. Basefsky will be responsible for building relationships and increasing public awareness of CAP with Pima and Pinal county customers, community leaders, educators, citizens, and the media. Basefsky will work out of CAP's Tucson Field Office in northern Avra Valley.
