April Tornquist is serving her second six-year term on the CAWCD Board of Directors representing Maricopa County, elected in November 2018 and November 2024. She is a near-native proud Arizonan, growing up in Mesa and earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Arizona in Tucson.  She has pursued a career as Research and Development engineer in a number of industries including alternative power, medical, ballistic, crash attenuation, and aerospace.  She owns an engineering product development business, Sway Engineering and Prototyping LLC, with her husband David, helping inventors develop new inventions, and has a day job as Engineering Manager at Inter-Coastal Electronics.

April shares eight children with her husband David, four of whom are married, and is currently expecting grandbaby number seven in 2026. She is active in her church and enjoys singing, piano, drawing and painting, camping, hiking, and all the time she can get on Lake Powell with her family.
