CAP delivers water from the Colorado River and holds the junior priority entitlement in Arizona and the Lower Colorado River Basin. Because of the junior priority, CAP’s supply is most vulnerable to shortages and reductions. Shortages on the river are caused by lack of precipitation and increased demands by water users dependent on the river.
Lower Basin Shortage Reductions
Current reductions required under the 2019 Lower Basin Drought Contingency Plan and the 2007 Interim Guidelines.
Adapting to Shortage
CAP continues to collaborate locally and regionally, and remains focused on future water supplies and the health of the Colorado River.
Through partnerships and cooperation, CAP is building flexibility and creating certainty in its system.
Protecting CAP Reliability
CAP is continuously working to protect the reliability of the Colorado River system through partnerships with water users, tribes and environmental stakeholders, as well as state, regional and federal agencies.
