Agriculture and
Central Arizona Project
Agriculture at CAP
November 2016

Agriculture and the Central Arizona Project have a long history. The Reclamation Act of 1902 was enacted to provide for “the construction and maintenance of irrigation works for the storage, diversion, and development of waters for the reclamation of arid and semiarid lands” in the west. This partnership helped and continues to help Arizona manage its water supplies for future need. Agriculture had an important role in the final negotiations for the CAP repayment to the United States Bureau of Reclamation and the Arizona Water Settlements Act of 2004.
